So let us look to the scripture and understand what is meant by vain. We are told thou shall not use the Lord God name in vain.  According to the Bible hub, The Hebrew word for vain is “shav” which means, emptiness falsehood or worthlessness. Taking God’s name in vain involves using it in an empty manner that is frivolous, deceitful, or disrespectful. This also would include swearing by God’s name, using it in an oath that are intended on not being kept and also using it in a casual or irreverent way.
